Formica flava Fabricius, 1782: 491 (w.) EUROPE. Palearctic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype (?) worker. Primary type locality: Europe: (“Habitat in Europae borealis sylvis.”) (no further data). Primary type depository: ZMUK. Type notes: 1) No indication of number of specimens is given. 2) Betrem, 1955a: 293, and Zimsen, 1964: 425, cite 1 worker in ZMUK, which may not be type material. 3) Dours, 1873: 165, Ruzsky, 1905b: 276, Ruzsky, 1916: 5, and others, mistakenly attribute authorship of Lasius flavus to De Geer. I (Barry Bolton) can find no mention of Lasius flavus in either of De Geer’s publications that include formicids (1773, 1778).
