Etymology |
The specific epithet, rastratus (Latin, from rastrat = covered as if with longitudinal scratches), is derived from the very fine, dense, longitudinal striae on the first gastral tegum. As noted by Mayr, “anterior half of first abdominal segment with dense, shallow longitudinal striae (rastrato) that often diverge laterally toward the posterior in an irregular fashion”.
