Protonym: Macromischa annectens
Authorship Wheeler, 1931b: 11
Forms w.
Bioregion Neotropic
Locality MEXICO (Morelos)
Etymology In the original description, Wheeler, 1931b states that this species, which he placed in Macromischa, nonetheless bears many features of the Temnothorax rottenbergii group of the Palearctic. Presumably ‘annectens’ (= connected) from Greek refers to the implied link between these taxa.
Primary type information Primary type material: lectotype worker (by designation of Prebus, 2021b: 94). Primary type locality: lectotype Mexico: Morelos: Cuernavaca, 26.vi.1929, #Z867/Sk., ex Tillandsia circinnata, M.C.Z. co-type 2-3 16359 (E. Skwarra). Primary type depository: MCZC. Primary type specimen: MCZENT00561747 (bottom specimen on pin).
Secondary type information Secondary type material: 1 paralectotype worker, 2 paralectotype teneral workers. Secondary type locality: paralectotype worker with same data as lectotype; 2 paralectotype teneral workers with same data as lectotype except M.C.Z. co-type 4-5 16359. Secondary type depository: MCZC (perhaps also AMNH). Secondary type specimens: MCZENT00561747 (paralectotype worker; top specimen on same pin as lectotype), MCZENT00561746 (paralectotype teneral workers).
Type notes 1) Original description cites 3 worker syntypes. 2) Baroni Urbani, 1978b: 422, cites 6 worker syntypes (AMNH, MCZC). 3) Prebus, 2021b: 94, cites worker lectotype, 3 worker paralectotypes (MCZC).
