Cryptocerus unimaculatus Smith, 1853: 221, pl. 19, fig. 9 (w.) BRAZIL. Neotropic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: Brazil: (no further data). Primary type depository: BMNH. Type notes: 1) Smith, 1853 says “I have only seen the single specimen in my own Collection”. 2) De Andrade & Baroni Urbani, 1999: 100, consider the type locality “certainly erroneous”, confirming the suspicion of Kempf, 1951: 116. Localities in Dominican Republic and Haiti are preferred, with possible representation also in Virgin Is (St Thomas I.), which Kempf, 1951 also considers “improbable”.
