Primary type information: Primary type material: 1 syntype worker, 1 syntype male. Primary type locality: Indonesia: Aru Is, “Aru 24” (A.R. Wallace). Primary type depository: BMNH. Type notes: 1) Donisthorpe, 1932c: 454, cites 1 worker in BMNH (confirmed by Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978); the syntype male has been lost. 2) A worker in OXUM has “Ponera rugosa Smith. Aru.” written on the underside of the card. This specimen also has a Donisthorpe type label, “worker Ectatomma rugosa Smith, TYPE.” This specimen is not type material of Rhytidoponera rugosa (as noted by Donisthorpe, 1932c: 454), but is the holotype of Rhytidoponera wallacei Donisthorpe, 1932c, as is indicated on a lower label (Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978).
