Cataglyphis fairmairei Foerster, 1850 junior synonym of current valid taxon Cataglyphis bicolor (Fabricius, 1793)
Cataglyphis fairmairei Foerster, 1850b: 494 (m.) ALGERIA. Palearctic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype (?) male. Primary type locality: Algeria: Algiers (no further data). Primary type depository: unknown. Type notes: 1) No indication of number of specimens is given. 2) According to Horn & Kahle, 1935: 78, Foerster’s formicid types are in MNHU, but Agosti, 1990b: 1487, says Cataglyphis fairmairei material could not be found. 3) Seifert & Schultz, 2009b: 271, state that “according to our own search in German collections, type material of Förster is completely destroyed”. 4) However, perhaps specimens remain in MNHN as Foerster, 1850b (p. 486) thanks “Leon Fairmaire in Paris” for the specimens.
