Ponera grandis Guérin-Méneville, 1838 an obsolete combination of Dinoponera grandis (Guérin-Méneville, 1838)
Ponera grandis Guérin-Méneville, 1838: 206 (w.) BRAZIL (Minas Gerais). Neotropic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype (?) worker. Primary type locality: Brazil: Minas Gerais (“dans la province des Mines”) (Voyage La Coquille) (no collector’s name). Primary type depository: probably MNHN. Type notes: 1) No indication of number of specimens is given but probably just one as Guérin-Méneville, 1838 says “Individu neutre”. 2) Dias & Lattke, 2021: 22, imply that a lectotype was designated by Diller, 1990: 70, but this designation refers only to Dinoponera gigantea Perty, 1833, not to Dinoponera grandis Guérin-Méneville, 1838. 3) According to Horn & Kahle, 1935: 99, Guérin’s Hymenoptera material was split between MNHN, MSNG, and ZSBS, but some are also present in NNML.
