Myrmica rubra var. schencki Viereck, 1903: 72 (w.q.m.) EUROPE. Palearctic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: lectotype worker (by designation of Seifert, 2003b: 145). Primary type locality: Europe (no further data). Primary type depository: MSNG. Secondary type information: Secondary type material: 2 paralectotype workers, 1 paralectotype queen, 1 paralectotype male. Secondary type locality: same as for lectotype. Secondary type depositories: MHNG, MSNG. Type notes: 1) Seifert, 2003b cites only lectotype plus 1 paralectotype. Details of the entire type series are provided by Radchenko et al., 2006: 513. 2) Original description localities were in U.S.A. (Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey) and Europe (Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands), but Baroni Urbani, 1971c: 35, and Seifert, 2003b: 146, pointed out that the type locality should properly be in Europe. 3) Earlier, Emery, 1895d: 315, had indicated that Myrmica schencki was based on material misidentified as Myrmica lobicornis by Foerster, 1850a: 69, Schenck, 1852: 82, and Mayr, 1855: 412. Localities given by these authors for the taxon included Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, and Slovenia.
