Primary type information: Primary type material: syntype workers (number not stated). Primary type locality: South America: (“Habitat in America meridionali.”) (no further data). Primary type depository: unknown (no material known to exist). Type notes: 1) Linnaeus adds that the ants were eating and tearing all foodstuffs to pieces, “consumens & dilacerans omnia cibaria”. 2) Fabricius, 1782: 491, and Fabricius, 1793: 357, give the type locality as Suriname (“Habitat Surinami”).
