Formica villosa Fabricius, 1804: 409 (q.) SURINAME. Neotropic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: lectotype queen (by designation of Fernandes et al., 2014: 155). Primary type locality: Suriname: Essequibo (Smidt). Primary type depository: ZMUC. Type notes: 1) Fernandes et al., 2014: 155, report that data on the lectotype specimen are, “Essequibo, Smidt, Mus. Sehestedt”. 2) Original description has, (“Habitat in America meridionali Dom. Smidt. Mus. Dom. de Sehestedt.”), without indication of caste of the specimen. 3) Essequibo is most probably the name for part of Suriname, rather than the river of that name. 4) Zimsen, 1964: 426, cites 2 specimens in ZMUC, 1 in ZMUK.
